"The Righteous vs. the wicked"

by C. Ikpoh

Tonight, I conversed with a demon as real as the words you are reading now. Its eyes reflected the colors inside Hell's flames. Frequently, the demon smiled the grin of a being that has not slept since time began. With every intimate hand gesture that connected on my uncovered flesh, I felt my spirit dim; I was slowly dying. Side-by-side we sat, discovering the other's evil.

Tonight, I conversed with an angel as real as the words you are reading now. Its eyes reflected the colors of Heaven's light. Frequently, the angel smiled the grin of a being that has not slept since time began. With every intimate hand gesture that connected with my uncovered flesh, I felt my spirit liven; I was being revived. Side-by-side we sat, discovering the other's righteousness.

Lucifer has been with me since my conception, vigorously investing in the equity of my soul. Each moment requiring me to exercise free will has seen Lucifer present, coaxing my spirit towards the hollow pit at the end of the path leading left. Every transgression has been flavored with the sweetest poison. I know this evil loathes me. Yet, the ominous glow exuded from Hell's gate makes me believe I am loved.

God has been with me since my conception, vigorously investing into the equity of my soul. Each moment requiring me to exercise my free will has seen God present, watching my spirit choose to find good at the end of the path leading right. Every blessing has been flavored with the sweetest elixir. I know God loves me, for the ominous glow exuded from Heaven's gate warms my spirit, eternally embracing me.

We are both the good and the evil in this world. We are all that is right and all that is wrong with it. The gravity of both the light and the dark only pull us as strongly as we allow them. The resolve we develop from each trial and tribulation is a product of the side we permit to engage in discourse. Righteousness or wickedness will conclude one's life story at the end of their chosen path. Who shall inscribe the final signature on your soul?
